“MRS. WHITNEY DIED SUNDAY AT DAUGHTER’S HOME. – Sarah Catharine Whitney, 76, mother of Mrs. Lewis Jones and Mrs. Leona Ball of Ames, and aunt of Mrs. J. A. Olinger of Nevada, passed away Friday morning in the Jones home, 197 ½ Kellogg avenue, Ames. She had been ill several months. Mrs. Whitney was born April 1, 1870, at Maxwell, Ia., and came to Ames in 1922. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stillwell, early settlers in Polk county. Her marriage to LeRoy Whitney took place Jan. 20, 1897, at Maxwell. Survivors include Mr. Whitney, a son, Harry of Denver, Colo., three daughters, Mrs. Marie Johnson of Sharon, Wis., Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Ball of Ames. There are also seven grandchildren. Three children preceded their mother in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon in the Adams chapel and at 3:30 in the Presbyterian church at Maxwell. Burial will be in the Maxwell cemetery.”

“SARAH CATHARINE WHITNEY. – Sarah Catharine Whitney, 72, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Jones, 719 ½ Kellogg, at 6:35 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, after an illness of several months. She was born at Maxwell, April 1, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stillwell, early settlers of Polk County, and came to Ames in 1922. She was married to LeRoy Whitney Jan. 20, 1897, at Maxwell. Survivors are her husband, one son, Harry Whitney of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Johnson, Sharon, Wis., Mrs. Hazel Jones and Mrs. Leona Ball, both of Ames, and seven grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Adams chapel and at 3:30 p.m. in the Presbyterian church at Maxwell, with Rev. R. C. Walker in charge. Burial will be in the Maxwell cemetery.”
