THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 8, 2005.

Rita Ann Voss, 73, of Ames, died of cancer Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames with Father Terry Rasmussen presiding. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Rita was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Boone to John and Elizabeth (Mott) Uthe. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Boone in 1949. She completed her bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1953. She taught in Independence and Cedar Rapids prior to her marriage and in later years was a physician's office manager.

She married Joseph Voss Dec. 26, 1955, in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames. Prior to moving to Ames 10 years ago, they lived in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Illinois. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and St. Mary's Circle.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; two sons, Mark (Maureen) Voss of Louisville, Ky., and Timothy (Lee) Voss of Kokomo, Ind.; two daughters, Rebbecca (Chris) Appel of Lynnwood, Wash., and Barbara (Will) Morris of Helotes, Texas; six grandchildren; one brother, Robert Uthe of Boone; and one sister, Mary Wirth of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Catherine Czizek; and two brothers, Paul and George Uthe.

A visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, with a rosary recited at 4 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Memorials may be directed to St. Cecilia Building Fund or Homeward Hospice.
