THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 7, 2005.
Yvonne Bernice "Bonnie" Makelbust, 86, resident of Austin, Texas, since 1983 and formerly of Ames, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 4.
Bonnie, as everyone called her, was born on July 3, 1919, in Sioux City, to James and Bernice Baxter Smith. She was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and was a member of the Amigas Club there. She also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary and People Against Violent Crime. Bonnie contributed many years of public service to her community and fellow man. Her family will always remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all her knew her.
She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Cable and her husband, Bob, and Lonnie Stober and husband, Richard; one son, Michael Makelbust and his wife, Linda; grandchildren Cheri Carr, Marci Lombardo, Mindi Daniels, Tricia Neppl and Nathan Makelbust; one sister, Jeanette Speckmann; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mak Makelbust; one granddaughter, Michelle Stober; her parents and two sisters.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary was Tuesday at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was this morning at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
