NEVADA EVENING JOURNAL OR AMES TRIBUNE, Story County, Iowa, June 1957. Copy from obituary file at Nevada Public Library, Nevada, Iowa. “”WALTER E. BELL OF MAXWELL DIES FRIDAY AFTERNOON. Maxwell, May 8 – Walter E. Bell, 53, longtime resident of Maxwell, died at Mary Greeley hospital, Ames, late Friday afternoon. Funeral rites will be held Tuesday at 2:30 at the Chruch of Christ in Maxwell, with Rev. Robert Collins in charge. Burial will be in the Maxwell cemetery. Besides his wife Eleanor Bell, he leaves a son Edwin Bell, of Maxwell; a daughter Dorothy Bell at home; his mother, Mrs. Martha Brown of Maxwell; brother Verne Bell of Maxwell; two sisters, Mrs. John Hostettler of Portland,,Oregon, and Mrs.Pierce Alder of Peshtigo, Wisconsin; and two step-sisters**, Mrs. Floyd Kuykendall of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Raymond Brown of Billings, Mo.” **Should be step-daughters not step-sisters.

THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Iowa, May 1943. “FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT MAXWELL FOR WALTER E. BELL. – Maxwell, May 13 – Funeral services for Walter E. Bell, 53, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Church of Christ in charge of the pastor Rev. R. G. W. Collins with Mrs. Ned A. Pearson at the organ. Mrs. C. I. Kirk and Chester Severson sang “Old Rugged Cross” “Beautiful Isle” and “Going Down the Valley.” Pall bearers were R. Z. Brown, Jay Alder, John Perzell, Douglas Davis and Mike and Jack Quinn. Flower tokens were many and very beautiful being arranged and carried by Mrs. J. J. Viers and Mrs. R. Z. Brown. The life sketch read by the pastor follows: Walter Earl Bell was born May 26, 1890 at O’Neil, Nebraska and passed away May 7, 1943 at the age of 52 years, 11 months and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Elnora Algire on April 26, 1916. He is survived by his wife, four children, Mary Brown, Martha Kuykendall of Missouri, Dorthy and Edwin of Maxwell, his mother Mrs. Martha Brown of Maxwell; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Alder of Wisconsin and Lottie Hostetler of Oregon; one brother, Vernon Bell of Maxwell; five nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Burial was in the Maxwell cemetery.”
