PAUL WENDEL DIES HERE.
Paul H. Wendel, 65, of 3005 Forty-fourth St., who formerly operated the Paul Wendel Music Co. here for 21 years, died Tuesday night at Veterans Hospital of pneumonia following surgery.
Mr. Wendel was well known throughout Iowa in band and music circles. He sold his music company in September, 1957, after suffering a stroke. He previously had been a music instrument technician with the Alonzo Leach Music Co. for 13 years.
Born in Urbana, Ind., he lived in Story City and Nevada before coming to Des Moines 40 years ago. He was graduated from Story City High School in 1916.
He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, the Masonic Lodge at Nevada, York Rite bodies, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, the Shrine Band, Argonne American Legion Post Band and the Musicians Union, Local 75.
Services are being arranged at the Dunn Funeral Home.
Surviving are his widow, Edna; his mother, Mrs. C.D. Wendel of Cedar Falls; a son, Lt. Gary C. Wendel, with the U.S. Air Force in West Germany; three sisters, Mrs. Merle Dickinson of Colo, Mrs. Elmer Mussig of Gladbrook and Mrs. G.O. Thompson of Le Mars, and three brothers, E.C. Wendel of Nevada, Lt. Cmdr. D.D. Wendel of Galveston, Tex., and G.M. Wendel of Iowa Falls.
