Services for Lena Borchert Held at Zearing on May 17
Funeral services for Lena Borchert were held Tuesday, May 17 at 2 p.m. in the United Evangelical Brethren Church in Zearing. Burial was in the Zearing cemetery. Rev. Louis Klotzbach officiated.
Casket bearers were Clarence Christianson, Fay Ballinger, Delos Cerka, Harlow McBride, Robert Rahfeldt and Hartman Coffin. Mrs. Walter Lund accompanied Mrs. Alwin Johnson at the organ. The floral offering was cared for by Mrs. Glen McBride and Mrs. Lydia Brandt.
Obituary
Lena Ott was born in Chicago, Ill. Dec. 29, 1875, the daughter of John and Caroline Ott. She died at the Story County Hospital at Nevada on May 15, 1960 at the age of 84 years, four months and 17 days. When a small child, the family moved to Carroll County, Iowa where she grew to womanhood, attending both public and Lutheran church schools and being confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She was united in marriage to Fred Borchert Jan. 18, 1895. They made their home in Carroll county until 1907 when they move to Neosho county, Kansas to make their home. In 1931 they moved to the Zearing community. They were the parents of two children, Adolph and Henrietta, now Mrs. Eddie Rahfeldt, both of Zearing.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died Dec. 30, 1936, her parents and four brothers, John Louis, William and Albert. She is survived by the son, the daughter, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Henry Ott of Cherryvale, Kans. and Fred Ott of Lake City, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Borchert has been a patient in a nursing home in Nevada, Iowa most of the time since fracturing a hip, which did not heal properly, 5 1/2 years ago. Since January of this year, she had several strokes, each weakening her a little more.
