PASSING OF PIONEER
Mrs. Betsey Egenes Leaves Many Relatives.

McCallsburg, Nov. 11--Mrs. Betsey Egenes, 68, who died at the home of her daughter Mrs. A. N. Rasmussen, in this city November 3, was a native of Skaanavik, Norway, where she was born Betsey Johnson, January 13, 1857.She was a child of but three years when she came with her parents to America, they locating first near Ottawa, Ill., where they lived until 1870 when they cam out to Iowa and took up their residence on a farm near Roland.
She was united in marriage to Peter G. Egenes June 2, 1875. They first located in Benton county but in 1883 they moved back to Story county settling on a farm in Warren township and in 1899 they moved into McCallsburg which was her home thereafter.
When she became ill she was taken to the home of her daughter where she was tenderly cared for until summoned by the death messenger.
She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away Jan. 3, 1921 and two sons one dying in infancy and one at the age of 22 years. She is survived by five daughters and three sons, Mrs. P. T. Johnson of Story City; Mrs. John Ingebritson, Graettinger; Mrs. Enoch Eide, Leland; Mrs. M. A. Ingebritson, Frost, Minn.; Otis Egenes of Albert Lea, Minn. and Mrs. A. M. Rasmussen, Peter and Martin of McCallsburg.
She also leaves 37 grandchildren and three great grandchildren also a brother Joseph L. Johnson of Story City and a sister Mrs. Margarette Haukoos of McCallsburg all of whom were present at the funeral. The daughter Mrs. M. A. Ingebritson has been here several weeks helping care for her mother. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Lutheran church in charge of Rev. Benson. The church was filled with sympathizing friends and relatives. Music was furnished by the choir who sang "Come to Me." A ladies quartette, Mrs. Benson, Mrs. Clyde Baumgardner, Florence Hanson and Fern Christian sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and a sextette Mrs. Benson, Margaret Jacobson, Florence Hanson, Fern Christian, Arthur Lura and Bert Bergland sang "There is a Home Eternal." Burial was made in the Warren township cemetery by the side of husband. The flowers were many and beautiful.
