PETERSON FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON

JOHN PETERSON HAD LIVED IN NEVADA FOR OVER HALF CENTURY.

John J. Peterson, 74, pioneer of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. N. S. Nutty, on Fourth street, Wednesday evening at five o'clock, and the funeral services were held from Memorial Lutheran church this afternoon at 2:30. The services were conducted by his pastor Dr. C. N. Swihart, after which interment was in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Peterson had been a resident of Nevada since 1872, when he located here shortly after arriving in this country from Denmark, where he was born at Daylor, September 15, 1850. It was in January 14, 1881 the he was united in marriage to Miss Sena Christiansen, who was the mother of his six daughters and two sons.

One of the daughters, Mrs. Margaret Bowers, died some years ago in California. The wife and mother died November 11, 1913 and those surviving the parents are Mrs. Carrie Beedle of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Crowell of St. Louis, Mrs. Hazel Nutty of Nevada, Mrs. Mabel Brown of Des Moines, Mrs. Lois Dirksen of Ames and the sons, Grant C. and Sam Peterson of Nevada. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Lars Mathison of this city, as well as numerous grandchildren and other relatives.

For a number of years after coming to Nevada Mr. Peterson was employed as a valued assistant to the Boardman Bros., produce packing house and later with the Nevada Poultry company. A few years ago, he with his sons, took up farming and stockraising and for the past number of years had conducted such an enterprise successfully.

Mr. Peterson was a man of many fine characteristics. He was reliable in every way, industrious, of fine integrity and a model husband and father. He leave a wide circle of friends who join with the members of the family in mourning his death.
