OBITUARY OF A. G. JOHNSON
Well Known Man Was Buried At McCallsburg.
Special to the Journal.
McCallsburg, Feb. 13--A. G. Johnson was born August 29, 1863 in Horland Bommel, Norway and departed this life at the age of 61 years, b months and 7 days, at the Nevada sanitarium Feb. 6, 1925.For years he had been ailing with cancer of the liver of which he never complained until in the fall of 1924 when he began failing being confined to his bed only two weeks which followed his death.
He was taken to the sanitarium in Nevada on Wednesday and underwent an operation on the liver and passed away Friday noon. His wife and four children at home were at his bedside when the end came.
He came to America in 1882 first to Story City, working as farm hand in Story and Marshall counties.
He was united in marriage to Gurene Ambjorensen of Espever, Norway, Dec. 29, 1886 after which they started farming south of Zearing and near Colo. Later moving to the farm one mile south of McCallsburg in 1902 where he lived until his death.
To this union was born ten children eight of whom are living and two have preceded him in death. Alfred at the age of 29 and Gurene in infancy.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife and eight children, Christ, Mapleton, Minn., Anthon of Marshalltown, Jennie of St. Louis, Mo., Carl of Austin, Minn., Inger, Berdines, Hilda and Manduis of McCallsburg. A brother, Chris Johnson of Kanawha, three brothers, Ole, Martin and Andrew and one sister, Inger in Norway. He also leaves nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Bergen church in Roland. Interment was in the McCallsburg cemetery.
The pall bearers were B. J. Ritland, Lewis Lura, Gust Merland, Jacob Brekke, Chris Knaphus and Tom Thompson.
The out of town relatives present at the funeral were Chris Johnson and three sons, John, Gunard and Edwin and S. Luing all of Kanawha, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hovland of Nevada, Mrs. Jennie Beyers of Ames, John Helgerson of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Horland, Mrs. Anna Horland and Martin Grinde all of Story City.
