SUDDEN DEATH ROLAND WOMAN

MRS. S. O. HOLLAND FELL FROM HER CHAIR AFTER FINISHING DAY'S WORK.

Special to the Journal.
Roland, Dec. 12--The community was shocked Monday evening when it learned that Mrs. S. O. Holland, 86, had passed away suddenly. Although she had been in poor health for many years she has been able to do her work and Monday evening she had prepared and eaten supper as usual and when she had washed the dishes, sat down on a chair and her husband and son noticed that her head had fallen back, they called to her but she was dead. Old age and general run down was the cause of death.

Gjori Heljesdatter Holland was born in Etne, Norway on January 3, 1839 and was a daughter of Helje and Gjore Holland. The deceased had seven sisters and one brother of which she was the surviving member. On June 27, 1861 she was married to S. O. Holland and to this union eight children were born. The first years of their married life was spent in Norway. Over forty years ago they came to America coming directly to Roland being the first immigrants to travel over Marshalltown and Story City branch. They lived on a farm south and east of town and later moved to Roland where they have lived for over twenty years.

In 1911 they celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage an in 1921 they celebrated the sixtieth anniversary. Had she lived until January 3, she would have been eighty-six years old. Besides her aged husband she leaves to mourn her death four sons and one daughter. Two sons and a daughter having preceded he in death, they being Mrs. Henry Heggen and Tollef Holland of Cambridge and George Holland of Radcliffe. Those living are O. McClellan of St. Paul, Sam Holland of Waterloo and Henry Holland and Mrs. Osmond Thompson of Roland, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
