Collins Woman Called By Death
Special to the Journal.
Collins, Nov. 17.--Funeral services for the late Mrs. Grace Hattery-Landers, which were held at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hattery of this place were attended by a large circle of relatives and friends. Interment was in the Collins cemetery.Grace L. Hattery was born January 10, 1889, and passed away November 7, 1924, aged 35 years, 9 months and 27 days. Early in life she joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Collins, Iowa. [She was married] to Frank L. Landers, August 12, 1918, at Demming, New Mexico. To this union two children were born, Margaret Lucile, who died a the age of 11 months at Marfa, Texas, and Betty Joan, age 2 years.
Besides her husband and daughter she leaves to mourn her loss her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hattery, five sisters, Mrs. J. R. Butler of Blenco, Ia., Miss Carrie Hattery of Collins, Ia., Mrs. Ed Berry of Joice, Iowa, Mrs. A. J. Hass [should be Haas] of Bangor, Iowa, and Mrs. Margaret Bilney of Woodward, Iowa, and four brothers, Charles, John, Lowell and Ralph, all of Collins. She was a loving wife and devoted mother, and will be greatly missed by her many friends and acquaintances.
As the body was laid to rest the soul was committed to the kindly care of the Creator. And though the hearts of those who knew and loved her, sorrow at the loss, yet they rejoice in the thought of one, who knowing and loving Christ, has but gone from the mortal life into that which is known to be immortal. The ritual of the Methodist Church was read and the brief service conducted by the minister of the Methodist church, H. A. Dittmer, and choir of those who had known of her life and work. Beautiful indeed were the flowers that whispered of eternal days in God's care.
