OBITUARY OF GRANDMA DEAN

Aged Woman Who Passed Away Recently at Colo.

When Grandma Dean died at the home of her son A. C. in Colo, September 6 1924, at the age of 99 years, 7 months and 7 days one of the oldest persons in the county passed away. The funeral services which were held the following Tuesday were largely attended, attesting to the high esteem she was held in the community in which she had lived for years.

Eleanor Jane Dickinson daughter of Alijah and Jane Dickinson was born at Tarrytown, N. Y., Jan. 30, 1825. When three years of age her mother was called by death and her only sister died in infancy. Her father died in 1876.

When a young woman she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Dutch Reform church at Woodburn, N. Y., and she lived a consistent christian life to the last.

On Sept. 20, 1845 he was united in marriage to Johnson Dean and they established their home at Hasbrouck, N. Y. One daughter and one son were born to them. The daughter Phoebe Kortright died at Neversink, N. Y., a few years ago.

In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Dean were persuaded by the former's brother Moses Dean to come to Sycamore, Ill.

A year later they were joined by their son, Albert Corbin Dean and family and since that time the two families have lived as one. In 1883 this united family moved to Iowa and located on the Lincoln highway west of Colo and later moved to another farm a few miles farther north where Grandfather Dean passed away July 2, 1908. The following spring they moved to Colo. At that time Grandma's sight was failing and soon she was entirely blind. In spite of age and affliction she soon made true friends of all her new neighbors. As she grew more feeble her daughter-in-law devoted more and more time to her care and every thing that love and willing hands could do was done for her comfort and pleasure and grandma was reverenced by everyone of her descendants. Sunday, Aug. 31 she suffered a light stroke and peacefully passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 6, 1924 aged 99 years, 7 months and 7 days. She leaves to mourn her loss her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Dean of Colo, thirteen grandchildren: Mrs. Lillie Moran of Nevada, Mrs. Addie Cook of Syracuse, Ill., Ira R.
