THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, August 9, 2005.

DeRuth (Dutch) Stohlmeyer, 84, of Ames, died Sunday, Aug. 7, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames with Father Terry Rassmussen officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

DeRuth (Dutch) Stohlmeyer was born July 10, 1921, in Tennyson, Wis., to Joseph and Laura Stohlmeyer. He graduated from Platteville, Wis., High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned a degree in engineering from the University of Missouri in Rolla in 1949. He married Dorothy Kregel on Feb. 14, 1949, in Guttenberg.

He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus; Ballard Golf and Country Club; Iowa Engineering Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a civil engineer for 34 years. Following retirement, he worked for FEMA for several years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stohlmeyer of Ames; two daughters, Margaret Brown of Ames and Amy (Greg) Davis of Newton; two sons, Michael (Maureen) Stohlmeyer of Ames and Joe (Kathy) Stohlmeyer of Ames; seven grandchildren; one brother, Ken Stohlmeyer of Seattle; and one sister, Lorraine Eisentraut of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 10, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Cecilia Church building fund or Israel Family Hospice House.
