Funeral Services for John Link

Special to the Journal.
Maxell, Oct. 1--Funeral services for John Link were held Saturday afternoon at the Loring church with Rev. H. D. Robinson of Des Moines in charge, assisted by Rev. Thiele. A make quartet composed of Ross and Clair Olinger and Clarke and Dale John, sang the following hymns: "No Night There:, "Sometime We'll Understand" and "It Is Well With My Soul," with Mrs. H. C. Larsen at the piano. The members of the Odd Fellows lodge held the last rituals at the grave. The pall bearers were L. E. McQuiston, E. L. Woolhether, M. D. Warner, John Gearhart, Olie Hulderson and R. L. Dustin.

John Jacob Link, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Link, sr., was born May 24, 1880 in Washington township, Polk county, Iowa, and departed this life at the Iowa Lutheran hospital, Wednesday at the age of 57 years and 4 months. During his early childhood, he was baptized into the Evangelical faith and from this faith found much peace and comfort.

His early life was spent on the farm in this vicinity and later he resided with his parents in Maxwell. Prior to this time, he became affiliated with the Modern Woodmen and Odd Fellows lodges, and retained his membership until his death.

He was a kind and loving brother, a good neighbor and always ready to lend a helping hand. It is said of John, that those who knew him best loved him most.

During the past winter he was in very poor health, and in June was taken to the Lutheran hospital, where death came Sept. 22, 1937. His suffering was long and intense, but through it all he was very kind and patient with those about him.

Among those who mourn his departure are six brothers and three sisters, the brothers being Martin, George and Leonard of Maxwell, Bert of Collins, William of Elkhart, and Charles of Vail. The sisters, Mrs. Anna Cairns, Mrs. Viola Witmer of Maxwell and Mrs. Kathryn Miller of Grimes, besides many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Link, sr., three sisters Mrs. Clara Hawkins, Mrs. Christina Morrison and Miss Rosa preceded him in death.
