Earle H. Shaw, Popular Young Business Man Died Last Night
Earle H. Shaw, 41, well known Nevada insurance man, was found dead in his bed in a hotel at Excelsior Spring, Mo., at an early hour today, by Mrs. Shaw, who had accompanied him on a trip to Excelsior Springs to attend an insurance convention.
Mr. and Mrs. Shaw had left here Sunday for Excelsior Spring, he being in his usual health at that time. For several years he had been a sufferer from various complication, but there appeared to be nothing alarming in the condition of his health and the news of his sudden death from heart failure was a distinct shock to both the family and his wide circle of friends.
Immediately after the dead body was found, apparently dead for about three hours, a message was sent to his brother, Leslie Shaw of Des Moines, who in turn notified the father and sister in this city. Leslie accompanied the Morfoot ambulance to Excelsior Springs after the body.
Further word from there indicated that Mrs. Shaw has been prostrated from the shock of the tragedy and R. Fred Nelson and Jack Chivers have left there to accompany Mrs. Shaw back to Nevada.
Mr. Shaw was the eldest of the three sons of Sherman T. Shaw of Nevada township, born there January 16, 1896. Graduating from the Nevada schools he took a business course in college, served throughout the World war, later was employed in the Peoples Savings bank here, for a time was in charge of the Fernald bank, then back to Nevada in the banking and insurance business.
For several years he had conducted the Earle H. Shaw Insurance Agency in the old bank building and by close attention to business has built up a large and very profitable line of insurance.
He was twice married. The first wife died leaving a little daughter Muriel. He leaves his second wife Mrs. Garnet Shaw, his daughter Muriel, the father Sherman T. Shaw, brothers Leslie of Des Moines and Donald of Marshalltown and sisters Mrs. Hazel Clement of Des Moines and Miss Alta Shaw at home.
During his years in Nevada he had been very active in civic affairs, being one of the leaders in the American Legion, served several years as secretary of the Nevada Community club, was an active member of the Masonic lodge and had a warm interest in the affairs of Memorial Lutheran church of which he had been a lifelong member.
He was a young man with a keen business mind, a hard worker and was ever ready and willing to do more than his part in any task to which he was assigned, of his interests drew to him.
In this sudden death of Earle H. Shaw Nevada loses a very valuable citizen and one whose death will be keenly felt in many ways.
Funeral arrangements are yet undetermined.
