Funeral Services at Garden City for Accident Victim

Garden City, April 26--Funeral services for Elaine Loretta Maley, 16, former McCallsburg girl, who met tragic death from an automobile accident near New Sharon on April 14 while riding with a group of friends, were held at Stavanger church, Garden City, and interment was in the Garden City church. The girl was a granddaughter of Mrs. Tom Auestad of this place.Elaine Loretta, second daughter of Peter and Pearl Maley, was born September 4, 1920 near McCallsburg, Story county, Iowa, and died April 14, 1937 at the age of 16 years, seven months and ten days.
Her parents moved to Minnesota in 1926 where Elaine received her grade schooling. Her first year of high school was taken in Manly, Iowa, where she lived with an aunt that year.
Two years ago the family moved to the vicinity northeast of New Sharon at which time Elaine entered her sophomore year in the New Sharon high school. Within a few weeks she would have finished her junior year. Elaine was fond of her school work and showed a good spirit of cooperation with her teachers.
While at Manly, Elaine received the required religious instruction for confirmation in the Lutheran church. Her young life was abruptly ended by the fatal accident on April 14 while riding with a group of friends. She fell from the car and was run over by an approaching car as she attempted to get up. She died two hours later.
Her accidental death has had a most startling effect on the community and friends. It came as a crushing blow to the family.
She leaves to mourn her untimely death her father and mother, two sisters, Florence and Marion, two brothers, Vernon and Lyle, her two grandmothers and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the New Sharon Christian church on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Edward L. Bellows, pastor of the Methodist church. Music was furnished by the high school girls' quartet. Miss Grant, music instructor of the public schools, was piano accompanist. Six of her classmates acted as pall bearers and the body was then brought here. Services were also held in the Stavanger church the same day at three p.m. with the pastor B. K. Barstad officiating. Music was furnished here by the Lutheran choir.
Those attending the Maley funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Hendrickson and children from Manly, Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Sime and children of Duncombe, Clarence Maley, Audrey and Ronald of Grand Meadows, Minn.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Auestad, Mr. and Mrs. Swen Ostrem, Mrs. O. M. Jacobson went to New Sharon on last Thursday, being called by the sudden accident of the formers granddaughter Elaine Loretta Maley, on Wednesday night and died within a few hours.
