Funeral Services for Geo. H. Barnes

Special to the Journal.
Huxley, Feb. 10--Funeral services for George H. Barnes were held on Monday afternoon with a short prayer service at the home at 1:15 p. m. and at 2:00 p. m. from the Fjeldberg church. The services were in charge of his pastor, Dr. J. N. Anderson, assisted by Rev. Peder Buland. Dr. Anderson chose as his text the words found in 2 Tim. 4:7-8. Rev. Buland spoke in the Norwegian language and chose to speak on the 23 and 24th verse of the 73rd Psalm.

Several sums on money were sent to the mission in memory of Mr. Barnes. The many floral offerings were unusually beautiful and paid silent tribute to the departed friend.

Mrs. Albert Johneson and Mrs. Palmer Anderson had charge of the flowers.

The Fjeldberg choir sang one hymn "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and Mrs. L. S. Kloster of Des Moines sang a vocal solo, "Den Store Vide Flake."

The pallbearers were Ernest Kretvsehmar of Rochester, Minn., Chester Lodden of Estherville, Gilmer Barnes, Gerhart, Joseph and George Lande. Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery.

Mrs. Barnes and her ten children were all present and also a large number of relatives and friends from out of town were in attendance at the services.

George H. Barnes was born in Halsnoen, Norway, March 14, 1854. Together with his parents, Haldor and Anna Barnes he came to Polk county, Iowa at the age of 12 years.

He was confirmed in the Fjeldberg church at the age of 15 and has been a faithful member until his death.

April 9, 1884, he was united in marriage to Brynhilda Munson of Minneapolis. To this union ten children were born.

Death came February 5, after an illness of two weeks.

He is survived by his wife, seven daughter and three sons. Twenty-seven grandchildren, also two sisters and one brother.
