W. D. MARTIN

Mr. W. D. Martin was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., Sept. 22, 1845. On Aug. 21, 1862 he enlisted in the 20th Indiana Batt. and served his country faithfully until June 28, 1865 when he was honorably discharged. After the close of the war he came to Iowa where he became acquainted with Mrs. Nancy Schoonover and Feb. 28, 1878 they were united in marriage. They established their home on a farm south of Colo where they remained until the spring of 1899 when they moved to their home in Colo where Mr. Martin passed away Sunday evening Mary 23, 195. Mr. Martin had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church for many years. He was a kind and loving husband and father, his two step-sons receiving the same loving care as his own son. He was a good neighbor and a loyal friend, a man who always had a kind word for everyone. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, one son Ernest Martin, one little granddaughter Pauline Martin, one step son E. G. Schoonover and family and the family of John Schoonover the step son who passed from this life several years ago, besides a few other relatives and a hos of friends. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. conducted by his pastor Rev. G. H. Johnson, assisted by Rev. W. G. McKinley. Rev. Johnson spoke words of comfort from Matt. 5:8. Comrades of the J. B. Steadman G. A. R. Post served as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Colo cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were, Mrs. Madge Rust of Elkpoint, S. D., Mrs. F. Parker of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Will Taylor, W. W. Childs and G. N. Toot of Ames. The entire community extended heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing ones.
