Mr. Wagner

Leonard Wagner was born in Northumberland Co., Penn., March 16, 1827. While still in Pennsylvania he was untied in marriage to Mary Martz. Six children were born to them. The youngest passed away in infancy shortly before the death of its mother. Later he moved with his family to Illinois and from there to Colo, Ia., where on Jan. 1st, 1874 he was united in marriage to Leah From. Three children were born to them one of whom died in infancy. Mr. Wagner was converted and united with the United Evangelical church at Colo under the pastorate of Rev. C. W. Anthony March 29, 1891. He remained a member of the church until his death. Mrs. Wagner passed from this life July 11, 1897. Since then Mr. Wagner has spent the greater part of the time with his daughter Mrs. Rose Shelley and family. For about sixteen years they have lived a Minburn where he passed away Sunday, June 11, 1916 aged 89 years, 2 months and 26 days. He leaves to mourn their loss six sons: William of Mabridge, S. D.; Joseph of Alberg, Ark.; Charles of Corvallis, Ore.; John of Belle Plaine, Ia.; and France of Omaha and one daughter Mrs. Rose Shelley of Minburn, Ia., thirty two grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Wagner was a true husband, a kind father, a loyal friend and neighbor and an earnest Christian. His remains were accompanied from Minburn to Colo Tuesday by his daughter Mrs. Shelley and sons Dale and Iver of Minburn and Monte Wagner, a grandson, of Belle Plaine. A nephew Henry Pifer and wife of Green Mountain met them here. Funeral services were held in the U. E. church Tuesday at 3 p. m. conducted by the pastor Rev. W. C. McKinley who chose for his text 2 Cor. 5:1. Interment was made beside his wife in the Colo cemetery. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones by many Colo people who remember Mr. Wagner and family with love and kind regards.
