Mrs. Brodie Dies Today at Age 102
Mrs. Sarah Brodie, the oldest person in Story County, died at the Story County Hospital in Nevada at 9:15 this morning at the age of 102.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 15 at the Christian Church in Maxwell. cooper Funeral Home, Maxwell, will be in charge. Burial will be in Everygreen Cemetery, Iowa Center.
Mrs. Brodie was one of 10 Children born to Mr. and Mrs. Adnrew Dunahoo. She was born in Story County February 18, 1861 and was reared in Indian Creek Township. For part of her life she lived in a 4' x 6' log home.
She could vaguely remember hearing that Lincoln had been shot.
She was married December 4, 1884 to John Brodie. Two children were born, Frank and John, both now deceased. Her husband, John, died in 1949.
Surving are one brother, Fred Dunahoo, Hampton; one granddaughter, Mrs. Marilyn Snyder, Roseburg, Oregon; and a host of nieces and nephews, many in Story County.
Mrs. Brodie lived all her life in Story County with the exception of a short time in Portland, Ore.
Always a cheerful woman, Mrs. Brodie was active until the last years of her life. Just last February she was the guest of honor at a birthday observance for her 102nd birthday, held at the M and H Cafe in Nevada. Eighty-two friends and relatives were greeted personally by the aged woman, whose eyesight and hearing were almost gone.
"I;ve got the best family in the world," she said, "not one of them has ever been locked up or hung. They've always been good people, thank God."
