Virgil E. Shickell, 83, of Collins died Wednesday at Riverside Manor in Ames of complications following a stroke. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Nevada United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Collins Evergreen Cemetery.

The Rev. Mr. Shickell was born in Collins and returned in 1976 after serving as a Methodist minister in Casey, Hudson, Adaville, Ralston, Meservey, Chariton, Laurel and Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; two sons, Eldon of Manchester, Ky., and Jerry of Phoenix, Ariz; two sisters, Geneveieve Geisler of Colo and Velda Noring of Indianola; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Red Bird Missions in Beverly, KY.
