GEORGE SHALLEY DIED SATURDAY
FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON FROM THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH.
George W. Shalley, age 70 years, retired farmer, died at his home in this city Saturday morning at 1:30, after an illness of 13 months. Funeral services were held from the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 4:00 and interment was in the Nevada cemetery.
The deceased was a native of Bunker Hill, Virginia, had lived in and around Nevada since 1893 and leaves a widow, two sons and three daughters. The sons are Sam Shalley of Bruce, South Dakota and Fred J. Shalley of Nevada. The daughters are Mrs. Mary Booher of Des Moines, Miss Anne Shalley at home and Mrs. Lizzie Melohn of this city. He also leaves a brother Ed Shalley of Nevada and a sister Mrs. J. N. Chitty of Fernald.
Mr. Shalley was born at Bunker Hill, Virginia, March 3, 1851. He was married in Pennsylvania and came out to Story county in 1893 settling first at Ames but later locating on a farm west of this city, where he lived for some years. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Shalley, five of whom with a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren are left to mourn his death.
He was a man of many excellent qualities and leave a wide circle of friends who will join with the wife and children in their sorrow over his death.
