Ole J. Jacobson, Roland Pioneer, Called By Death
Roland, Nov. 6--Ole J. Jacobson, 88 years of age, died at the old Jacobson homestead a mile west of Roland, Saturday at 8 p. m. He had been failing in health for some time but had been confined to his bed only a month.
Funeral rites will be held Tuesday, with prayer at the home at 1:30, followed by services at Bergen church at 2 p. m., with his pastor Rev. Sumstad in charge. Burial will be in the Roland cemetery by the side of his wife and two of their children.
Born at Sunde, Stavanger, Norway, Nov. 29, 1850, he came to America and stopped first at Spring Grove, Minn., in 1871. Staying there but a short time he came overland to Roland, making the trip in a covered wagon.
He was married to Annie Jacobson, Nov. 9, 1877, the second couple being his sister Annie Jacobson and his wife's brother Jacob C. Jacobson.
They lived on a farm six miles south of Roland until 1893, when they moved to Roland and lived for a year, locating on the farm a mile west of town, where they lived until 1910, when they again moved into Roland and here the wife died in 1932.
Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson. One died in infancy and the daughter Bertha died in 1909 at the age of 30 years. The son Carl survives the parents and lives on the old homestead and there the deceased made his home after the death of Mrs. Jacobson.
He leaves the son Carl, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. O. T. Molde of Roland and Mrs. Ole Halverson and Mrs. J. G. Amdall [should be Mrs. Knut J. Amdahl] of Kerkhoven, Minn., and brothers Knute J. Jacobson of Dallas, Wis., and Thor J. Jacobson of Story City.
