Hold Services at Colo for Sam Elwood

Aug. 24--Funeral services were held for Sam Elwood
from the Methodist church at Colo at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Aug. 19, services were in charge of the Rev. H. H. Proett, local pastor. Music was furnished by Miss Annabelle Lounsberry, Claire and James Lounsberry, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Mark Wilson. Flowers were in the care of Mrs. Anna Danskin and Miss Isabelle Danskin. Pallbearers were Messrs. Ross Whit, Andrew Kriner, Ade White, A. B. Perry, John Thompson and Roy Goodenow. Interment was in the Colo cemetery.Samuel Roscoe Elwood, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Elwood was born in Mills county, Iowa, on April 5, 1869, and passed away at Colo, Iowa, Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1939.
At the age of 11 years he moved with his parents to Story county, locating on a farm in the Hickory Grove neighborhood, southwest of Colo, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Dayton of Nevada. To this union three children were born, a daughter Mrs. Ivadel Gibbs of Washington, D. C., and a son Harlan D. Elwood of Chicago, surviving. He also leaves four grandchildren, a sister Mrs. John Sellers of Ames, two brothers, Guy Elwood of Minneapolis, Minn., and Fred Elwood of Ames. His parents, one daughter, two brothers William and Charles, and a sister Lillian, having preceded him in death.
Among the relatives attending from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Ora Weeks and two children, Guy Elwood of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. John Sellers, and Fred Elwood, an Mrs. Starbuck of Ames, and Harlan Elwood of Chicago.
