Funeral Services Held Here Tuesday for Herbert Fisher
Funeral rites for Herbert Fisher, 56, Richland township farmer who died at his home northeast of Nevada Saturday, were held Tuesday afternoon at Central Presbyterian church with Rev. C. V. Pence of the Church of Christ in charge. The songs were by Mrs. Pence and Mrs. Cook. Burial was n the Johnson Grove cemetery.
Pallbearers were Iver Cook, I. W. Tudor, Alvin Nelson, Harold Lobaugh J. Guy Handsaker and Lee W. Cook.
The church was well filled with relatives, neighbors and friends who had gathered to pay a final tribute of love and respect to one they had known and admired.
The following sketch of the life of Mr. Fisher was read during the service.
Herbert Fisher, son of the late Elijah and Clara Fisher, was born in Richland township, Story county on July 23, 1882, and passed away at his home on June 24, 1939, at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 1 day.
Mr. Fisher grew to young manhood on the farm with his parents. While yet a boy he became a member of the Christian church, at St. Anthony.
On Nov. 11, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Christina Hannusch of St. Anthony. They started housekeeping on a farm near St. Anthony where they resided for a few years.
Mr. and Mrs. Fisher have been residents of Marshall and Story counties all their married life, with the exception of one year in Colorado. He was a successful farmer.
To this union were born three children: Ernest, Arlo and Maxine.
Four years ago, Mr. Fisher submitted to an operation of a malignant nature and the following two years his condition was much improved; however, the past two years he had been in poor health and last December his condition grew more serious following siege of flu. He was confined to his bed nearly three weeks ago. Medical aid was of no avail--all that loving hands could do, was done to ease the terrible pain and try to make him comfortable; the end came peacefully Saturday morning with his wife and children, who had watched over him constantly, at his bedside.
Mr. Fisher was a kind and loving husband and father. He was highly esteemed as an honest and upright man, by his friends and neighbors.
Besides his wife and three children, Ernest Fisher of Nevada, Arlo Fisher of Rock Falls, Ill., and Mrs. Maxine Hopper of Marshalltown, who deeply mourn his departure, there are three brothers, John of Popejoy, Clarence of St. Anthony and Lester of Marshalltown; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Deal of Zearing and Mrs. Lulu Kersey of Saskatchewan, Can. A sister Hazel preceded him in death. He also leaves many other relative and a host of friends.
