Funeral Services Held Today for Late Mrs. Ella Mather
Special to the Journal:
Ames, May 11--Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Mather, 92, who died Tuesday evening after an illness of several months will be held this afternoon at 4:00 from the Adams Funeral Chapel, with her pastor Rev. A. R. McLaughlin in charge. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery by the side of her son, the late J. I. Mather of East Lincoln Way, who died a year or so ago.Born Ella Warren in DuPage county, Ill., April 8, 1847, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Warren, pioneer Illinois residents. She spent her youth in Illinois before coming to Iowa, and was married on Thanksgiving day in 1865 to John D. Mather. The couple lived on a farm before moving to Westside, Ia., where Mr. Mather was a teacher in the schools.
The couple resided in Ames for 20 years in a home on Thirteenth street. Mr. Mather died in 1915 and during her latter years Mrs. Mather made her home with her son, the late J. I. Mather, and wife east of Ames. She was a long time member of the Congregational church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. F. Hollingsworth of Kansas City, Mo., one brother Edward Warren of Miami, Fla., two sisters, Mrs. Henry Guild of Mason City and Mrs. Henry Bartholomew of Eola, Ill., four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
