Mrs. James Curtis, 61, longtime resident of Milford township, a beloved wife and mother, passed away at the Iowa Sanitarium at --:00 Monday afternoon where she had been rushed from her farm home on Saturday evening with an attack of pneumonia which had followed the flu.

Funeral services will be held from St. Patrick's Catholic church in this city, Wednesday morning at --:00 with her pastor, Rev. D. A. -orman in charge of the Requiem High Mass service. Committal will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.

The last illness of Mrs. Curtis covered a period of about one week. She had been ill with the flu on Monday of last week but by Wednesday and Thursday had seemed much improved. Her condition took a turn of the worse Friday with pneumonia developing. On Saturday evening, she was rushed to the Iowa Sanitarium where she was given every car possible, but passed peacefully away Monday afternoon surrounded by her devoted daughters, her husband, her sister, who is a trained nurse, and other relatives and close friends.

The deceased was born December 15, 1877 at Phillips, Wis., Mollie, a daughter of Michael and Hannah Carrey McNichols who came to Story county when she was three years of age and settled upon the farm in Milford township which was long known as the McNichols farm but is now the Rierson farm.

She attended the rural schools of Milford township and the Nevada high school and Story County Normal. For several years she taught in the rural schools of Story county.

On Feb. 23, 1903, she was united in marriage to James Curtis of Nevada. The marriage service performed by the late Rev. Michael Nicholls in St. Patrick's Catholic church. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Curtis moved first upon the McNichols farm and later upon the Curtis farm in Milford township. Thirty years ago they moved upon the Mabel Gates-Wadsworth farm in south Milford township where the family has continued to make it's home.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Curtis, three daughters and one son. The daughter, Marie and the son Eugene, died in infancy. The daughters Edna and Genevieve, and the husband are left to mourn the passing of a most devoted and loving wife and mother.

The sister of the deceased, Miss Bess McNichols, R. N. of Des Moines, was called here Saturday evening and was at her bedside ministering to her with all the skill of trained service until the end. A brother, John McNichols, who lives in Miami, Florida, is in poor health and will be unable to be here for the funeral services.

The body is at the Bishop Funeral home where it will lie in state until the funeral hour on Wednesday morning. Members of the Catholic Guild, of which she had been a long and faithful member, and other members of the church will assemble at the Funeral Home this evening at 8 p. m. where the Rosary will be recited in her memory.

In the passing of Mrs. Curtis the family has lost a truly devoted wife and mother who always placed her home and her church first in her mind and heart. Because of this quiet and unassuming life, her ministrations of kindness and service extended to those who mourn the passing of this woman whose truly Christian life has been one of devotion, love and service.
