Funeral Services Held at Slater for Mrs. Mary Clark

Special to the Journal.

Slater, March 6--Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Clark, 86, were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church at two o'clock. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. Judson T. Perkins, assisted by Rev. A. I. Kruetzman of the Lutheran Reformed church of Alleman.

The many beautiful flora offerings were in charge of Mrs. Herman Hegburg and Mrs. Kermit Granseth.

Homer Lewis sang a vocal solo, "Sunrise." Two vocal trios, "Someday We'll Understand" and "I Can Hear My Saviour Calling," sung by Misses Jeanne Marie, Norma and Ruthe Peterson accompanied by Mrs. Eunice Berglund.

The grandsons were pall bearers: Ralph Marshall Clark, Bob Clark, Floyd Clark, Emmet Clark and Wwain Smithhart.

Burial was made in the Sheldahl cemetery by the side of her husband who died a number of years ago.

Mrs. Mary Irwin Clark, daughter of Alexander and Allen [should be Ellen] Bodden was born in Dalbeattis, Scotland, July 27, 1852, and died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. George Schonhorst near Alleman Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the age of 86 years, seven months and one day.

When four years old she came to America with her parents and made their home in Boston, Mass., for a few years. The family then moved to a farm near Elkhorn, Wis. It was there she met and married Marshall Clark. Their marriage took place March 2, 1872. To this union four children were born: Frank, Laura and Clarence who have died and Bert who still survives. After her marriage, the family moved to a farm in Garden Prairie near Slater. They resided on the farm for several years and then moved to Sheldahl. When the town of Slater was founded they moved to Slater and lived here until the death of her husband in 1906. Since then she has made her home with her sons, Bert and Clarence families and with her granddaughter, Mrs. George Schonhorst.

When the Methodist church was founded in Slater she became a charter member and has always retained her membership. She was an earnest Christian. The words, "quiet, patient, loving an appreciative," speak of her character and Christian graces. She is survived by one son, Bert Clark of Slater, one sister, Mrs. Joe Ryan of Elkhart, Wis., thirteen grandchildren and many other relatives and a large circle of friends who mourn her death.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral services were Mrs. Elmer Campbell of White Water, Wis., Miss Myrtle Bodden of Burlington, Wis., Mrs. Harry Maine and daughters of Des Moines, Mrs. C. C. Craft of Adel, Mrs. Amanda Frundell and Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Graves of Madrid.
