Story City Man Died Suddenly from Apoplexy

Special to the Journal:
Story City, Jan. 16--Andrew O. Valen, 77, longtime resident of this community died at his home here Sunday afternoon at 6:30, following a stroke suffered about 3:00 p.m. of the same day. Although his health had been failing he had not been ill until the fatal stroke and the news of his death came as a shock to the community.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, with prayer at the home at 1:30 and the funeral at St. Petri church at 2:00. Burial will be in the Story City cemetery. Rev. S. T. Nelson will be in charge.

He was a native of Norway but came to the United States and Story City when young.

He leaves his wife, a daughter Mrs. Otto Christiansen [should be Christensen] of Story City, and stepchildren Mrs. Jack Gilder of Des Moines, Bernt Egenes of Wyoming, and Johnnie Egenes, Edwin Egenes, Herbert Egenes and Arndt all of Story City.

The three brothers are Ole Valen of Dawson, Minn., and John and Andreas Valen of Zimmerman, Minn.
