Hold Services for Late John Randall at Collins Church
Collins, Nov. 5 -- Funeral services for the late John W. Randall of Des Moines were held at Collins Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Church of Christ, with the local pastor Rev. Lloyd Patton in charge. Two songs "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson, Miss Calla Wood, E. S. Stuntz and Milton Hale with Mrs. Derby at the piano. By request the pastor read the Twenty-third Psalm and the comforting discourse that followed used that portion of scripture as its theme.
Burial was in Evergreen cemetery by the side of the wife who died many years ago. The pallbearers were E. E. Jones, Frank Day, O. H. Gearhart, Frank Campbell, Chas. Vasey and Warren Kitchell.
Mr. Randall was a native of Indiana but came to Iowa with his family when but a boy. He spent much of his early life in and near Peoria in Jasper county and married Miss Emma Hall a sister of the late James Hall of Collins. Six girls and two boys were born to Mr. and Mrs. Randall and three of the children Cora, Olive and Harvey with the mother have preceded him in death. The surviving children are Mrs. Ethel Houtz of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Mary Troup of California, Mrs. Jennie Hall of Colfax, Virgil Randall of Des Monies and Miss Alma Randall who spent much of her time with her father.
The family made their home in Collins for many years and have a large circle of friends and many relatives in this community. The deceased moved from Collins about twenty-five years ago moving to Altoona, where he engaged in fruit and vegetable growing, later moving to Des Moines.
He passed away Saturday at the home of his daughter Mrs. Hall near Colfax, where he had been visiting. Mr. Randall who as more than eighty years old is also survived by his only brother Jesse Randall of Des Moines.
