Funeral Services For Robert McCollom Held Wednesday

Colo, April 22 -- Funeral services for Robert McCollom who passed away Wednesday morning April 16 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines were held Friday afternoon at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines. Rev. Steffenson of Des Moines was in charge of the service. A soloist sang two number, "Beautiful Isle" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" with organ accompaniment. Des Moines friends served as casket bearers, interment being in Ridgedale Cemetery.

Following is the obituary read by Rev. Steffenson:

Robert John, son of Frank and Ida McCollom, was born September 21, 1884, near Colo. Here he grew to young manhood then came to Des Moines where with the exception of a few years spent in Idaho he has resided. He was married to Carrie White July 25, 1908.

For some time they farmed. He then became part owner and operator of Capital City Sand Co. selling out to enter the army in 1917 when he served his country until the end of World War I.

On his return he was in various businesses and then about 20 years ago he bought some land in Indianola Road and started the erection of the Capital City tourist camp which he owned until about two years ago when he sold out and retired to the home at 901 E. 26th st.

About five weeks ago he suffered an attack of flu followed by pneumonia and in spite of all that medical care and loving hands could do he passed away April 16 at 5:15 a.m.

Bob as he was known to all his friends was ever ready to lend a helping hand to one in need. He was a great lover of children and enjoyed doing many kind deeds for them. He was a man of high ideals and just and upright in all his dealings. His friends are many and with his devoted wife, Carrie, his son, Raymond and wife, his grandson Eddie, his aged mother, brothers, Wallace and Forrest, and sister, Mrs. Hattie Binder, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews all deeply mourn his passing.

Relatives attending from Colo were Mrs. Hattie Binder, Mr. and Mrs. Forest McCollom, Wallace McCollom, Mr. and Mrs. John McCollom, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Ellwood and family.
