Last Rites for Mrs. George Larson In Story City

Story City, Jan. 21: Last rites for Mrs. Geo. Larson, long time resident of Story City, were largely attended Thursday afternoon, Jan. 16.

Mrs. Ragnhild Engebritson Larson was born in Halling dal, Norway, October 12, 1857. With her mother and two other children she came to America in a sailing vessel in 1866. Her father had come to the new world before his wife and family, coming to the Story City vicinity almost immediately.

She was united in marriage to George Larson Sept. 28, 1878. Nine children were born to this union. Two died in early infancy, namely: Adolph Bernard and Adolph Leonard. One son, Attorney E. V. Larson of Twin Falls, Idaho died July 5, 1941.

Mrs. Larson has made her home in Story City and vicinity for the past 80 years. Like so many other pioneer women of those early days, she experienced all the trials and inconveniences of the day. Frequently she ministered to the need of the sick and infirm, bringing comfort to many homes, sharking the joys and sorrows that came. She was a devoted wife and mother, with her husband, instructing the children in the way of salvation through home and church. Her interests were many. Besides caring for a large family, she found time to take an active interest in the community. She was a loyal member of the St. Petri Lutheran church throughout her life time. She also took an active interest in the affairs of the Story City Old Peoples Home and hospital. She served as a member of the auxiliary board of the institution as well as president of the Home and Hospital Ladies' Aid.

Mrs. Larson was a nature lover and took great interest in her yard and flowers. These were a source of pride to friends and neighbors as well a herself. Her flowers and fruit were frequent love tokens to acquaintances and neighbors.

Death called her to her eternal rest in Christ Sunday evening, Jan. 12, 1947.

She is survived by the following children: George H. of Compton, California; Belle Teig of Story City; Harry W. of Pingree, N. Dak.; Gerald W. of Chicago, Ill.; Attorney O. R. of Story City; Della Kruwell of Davenport, Ia.; and Carl Frithjof of Okemos, Mich. Seventeen grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Barbara Rask, age 93, of Madrid, Ia., survive her.

Her son, O. R. Larson, together with seven of her grandsons and one granddaughter served in the recent war. Two grandsons, Harold Larson of Pingree, N. Dak., and Herbert Larson of Twin Falls, Idaho, gave their lives in the service of the country.

Services were held in the Story City Old Peoples Home Thursday afternoon, at 1:15 and in the St. Petri Lutheran church at 2:00 with the Rev. Selmer T. Nelson in charge. A granddaughter, Kathryn Larson, sang "Beautiful Savior" at the Home. In the church, "Den Store Hvide Flok" was sung by the Rev. Nelson and "Come to My Heart" by the choir with Mrs. Robert Hermanson as soloist. Memorial gifts totaling $129.50 were given to missions and other benevolences.

Casket bearers were: Albert S. Larson, Alfred Jacobson, P. C. Donhowe, L. O. Jacobson, C. F. Johnson, and Serral Munson. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.
