Word was received in Gilbert Monday of the death of one of Gilbert's former citizens, Chas. Shepard, of Los Angeles. The body arrived Monday morning from Los Angeles. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church at Gilbert, with interment in the Gilbert cemetery. Mr. Shepard was born near Gilbert 58 years ago. Death came following a fracture of the skull resulting from a fall from a ladder at Los Angeles. He was a carpenter by occupation. Mr. Shepard enjoyed a wide acquaintance in the Gilbert neighborhood.

OBITUARY

Chas. D. Shepard was born at River Falls, Wis., July 20th, 1857. A few years later he came with his parents to Gilbert. Here he lived until the year of 1906, when he left for California. On Friday, Aug. 6th, 1920, while working on a building, the scaffold fell and received injuries which caused his death, at the age of 63 years and a few days. While living in Gilbert he was a member of the Congregational church, and later joined the M. E church at Los Angeles, Cal. He leaves to mourn his departure his only brother, E. T. Shepard, and his family, and many friends here and also in California.

Funeral services were held Monday Aug. 16, in the Congregational church at Gilbert, Rev. H. M. Raecker conducting the services. Interment in the family lot in the Gilbert cemetery.
