MRS. VASEY, PIONEER DIED AT COLLINS

MOTHER OF FOURTEEN CHILDREN, NINE OF WHOM SURVIVE THE PARENTS

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Jan. 12--Mrs. Nancy Vasey, 79, longtime resident of this neighborhood, died at her home north of town Sunday afternoon at 4:00, after an extended illness. Dropsy and other complications was the cause of death.

While the hour is not definitely settled, it is probable that the funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Church of Christ, after which interment will be in the Collins cemetery, by the side of her husband who died many years ago.

Mrs. Vasey was born Nancy Bridge, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Bridge, at Roadhouse, Morgan county, Illinois, June 5, 1852. She grew to womanhood in that neighborhood and was married to John R. Vasey, at Jacksonville, Illinois, September 1, 1869. The first of March, 1870, they first came to Iowa but later returned to Illinois, where they remained until 1888, when they remained until 1888, when they came back to Collins and settled on the old Vasey homestead north of Collins.

Fourteen children were born to them, of which two died in infancy. Three others, Mrs. Alice Alexander, Mrs. Sarah Jane Botheras and Edward Vasey died later in life.

The nine surviving children are Mrs. Rebecca Bloomfield of Maxwell, John William Vasey of Rose Creek, Minn., Joseph Vasey, Mrs. Rose Franklin, Mrs. Louise Franklin, James Vasey and George Vasey all of Collins, Mrs. Ada Smith of Fort Leavenworth, Kas., and Mrs. Clara Bachus (should be Backous), of near Colo.

Mrs. Vasey had been for many years a member of the Church of Christ in Collins and was a woman of fine character and much respected in the community in which she had lived for over 40 years.
