THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, July 6, 2005.

Roger McGrath, 86, of Story City, died at his home Monday, July 4. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with the Rev. Sandy Anenson officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Roger McGrath was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Lemont, Ill., to Martin and Catherine McGrath. He married Bettylou Hage April 11, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II. In 1950, he and his family moved to Minnesota. He retired from FMC in Fridley, Minn., in 1981. They moved to Iowa in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Bettylou McGrath of Story City; one son, Gary (Kitty) McGrath of Gilbert, Ariz.; one daughter, Dee (Paul) Popelka of Ames; grandchildren, Kathryn McGrath of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michael (Sarah) Popelka of Seattle, Kerry McGrath of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Tom Popelka of Houston and Josh Popelka of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ligouri Lindberg, Marion Miller, Kay Mantz and Genevieve Ward; and three brothers, Thomas, Walter and Edward McGrath.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
