MRS. C. P. BEAN IS DEAD AT ZEARING
MOTHER OF FIRST CHILD BORN IN VILLAGE PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING
Special to the Journal.
Zearing, Sept. 29--Mrs. C. P. Bean, 76, died at her home here this morning at 6:00, having been confined to her bed since early in August and failing in health for the past year.The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Church of Christ, with Rev. C. A. Burkhart in charge. Interment will be in the Zearing cemetery.
Marion Bean, whose maiden name was Marion Brown, was born at Saratoga Springs, New York, August 11, 1857. Later her people moved to Prairie duLac, Wisconsin, where she grew to young womanhood, attended the local schools and later she attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison and received her degree. After teaching school for two years in Wisconsin she went to Hampshire, Ill. where she taught for two years.
She was united in marriage to Cyrus P. Bean at Elgin, Illinois, February 15, 1879. they made the trip from Illinois out to Story county in a covered wagon and settled on a farm three miles southeast of Zearing. There they lived until they moved into Zearing in 1881, the year the town really came into active existence.
From that time to their residence in Zearing had been continuous and her life an active one.
During the eight years that Mr. Bean served as post master she was assistant an had also assisted him in his work as secretary of the Zearing Farmers Creamery during the twenty-eight years that he has served in that capacity.
For many years she was treasurer of the Zearing Chapter O. E. S. and had held other offices in that order.
Both she and Mr. Bean were charter members of the Zearing Church of Christ and had always been active in the work of the church.
There were three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bean. The daughter Mrs. Grace Campbell has assisted in the care of the mother during her declining days. The son Ernest who is located at Madison, Wisconsin was the first child born in Zearing. The second son Ward, is now at the The Hague, Holland, Europe, where he is connected with the Shell Petroleum company as a geologist.
