Funeral Services for Mrs. John Morris

McCallsburg, Aug. 5--The funeral services of Mrs. John Morris, Sr., was held at the Presbyterian church at McCallsburg Thursday afternoon and attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Rev. H. N. Bakke pastor of the Bethany Lutheran church officiated taking his text from 1 Sam. 16th chapter and 7th verse.

The music was furnished by Mrs. W. H. Reid, Mrs. F. E. Nail and A. G. Graves with Chas. Tett at the piano. They sang, "Nearer My God to Thee" at the service at the home preceding the service at the church and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Asleep in Jesus" at the church.

The pall bearers were W. H. Reid, N. H. Nelson, Andy Thompson, John Schauper, J. S. Thompson and Oscar Moklebust. The many floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. R. E. Baumgardner and Mrs. Andy Thompson.

Burial was made in the Warren township cemetery.

Mrs. John Morris, Sr., whose maiden name was Delilah Alice, second daughter of Missouri and Mickey Lee [should be See] was born near Zearing in Story county, January 24, 1862 and died at her home in McCallsburg, Monday evening, July 31 at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 7 days, always having lived in Story county.

She was married in 1887 to John Morris who survives her and to this union six children were born, Williams of Meservey, Hazel Elwell of Zearing, Zina Bailey, Chodron, Neb., John Russel, Ervin and Ross of McCallsburg. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren. She was one of a family of eight children and is survived by one brother Frank in Florida, and two sisters, Jennie Selover of Sioux City and Mary Simpson [should be Stimson] of California.

Two brothers Jack and General and two sisters Lucy Robinson of Sioux City and Eliza Pearce [should be Pierce] of Nebraska with the parents having preceded her in death.

She was a kind and loving mother always thoughtful of those about her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was along time member of the Evangelical church at Zearing.

The children and grandchildren were all present at the funeral. Among the out of town people in attendance were Omar Dool and mother and Mrs. Mary Gardner, Mrs. Maria Tisdale of Zearing; Mrs. Louie Marshall, Mrs. Fry, Mrs. Mary Nokes, Gustone Ludwig and mother and Mrs. Julius, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McKinney of Nevada and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Thompson of Ellsworth.
