Early Day Nevada Woman Buried Today in Marshalltown
Local relatives in Marshalltown today attending funeral services for Mrs. Belinda Kelley, 81, held at St. Mary's Catholic church at 10:00 after which burial was at Riverside cemetery.
Mrs. Kelley was a resident of Nevada in an early day and also lived at Ames for a time before moving to Marshalltown which had been the family home for a number of years. She was a relative of the Kersey families of Nevada and Milford township.
Mrs. Kelly, widow of Patrick Kelly, a resident of Marshalltown since 1884, died at 9 o'clock Tuesday night at her home, 406 South Fifth street after a short illness.
Mrs. Kelly was born Belinda Kenney [should be Kinney] in Forty-Second street, New York City Oct. 11, 1851. The family moved to Mount Carroll, Ill. where she was married April 4, 1867 to Patrick Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly remained in Mount Carroll for a short time and then came to Iowa making the trip overland to settle in Story county. After several years residence at Ames and Nevada they moved to Marshalltown in 1884.
Mr. and Mrs. Kelly were the parents of five children all whom preceded them in death. Mr. Kelly died in Marshalltown in 1906. Mrs. Kelly is survived by a grandson, Leo E. Tretter, with whom she made her home after the death of her husband and by three great grand children.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, St. Elizabeth's Society and the W. R. C. of Marshalltown.

The obituary make note that Belinda Kelley "was a relative of the Kersey families of Nevada." She and her sister, Anna Kinney, were the daughters of John Kinney and Mary Hoban. Belinda's sister, Ann/Anna Kinney, married Henry Kersey in Carroll County, Illinois in 1865. Henry and Anna (Kinney) Kersey are buried in the Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
Belinda (Kinney) Kelley had a daughter, Emma G. Kelley, who married Joseph James Tretter in September 1898 in Marshall County, Iowa. Emma died 1 November 1899. It appears Belinda raised her grandson, Leo Tretter.
