Funeral Services for Mrs. Hovick

Special to the Journal.
Slater, Dec. 17--Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hovick were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock when brief services were held at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lorenda Olson. At two o'clock the services were held at the Bethlehem church in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem.

Beautiful floral offerings were placed near the casket. Mrs. Mabel Hauge of Des Moines and Miss Ruth Halverson sang two duets, "In the Garden" and "No Disappointment in Heaven." "No Night There" was sung by a mixed quartette composed of Andrew Maland, Homer Lewis, Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson.

Six grandsons served as pall bearers. The were Herbert Hovick, of Roland; William Ogle and Roger Mickelson of Des Moines; John, Milo and Harold Hovick of Jewell. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Hovick was born December 4, 1851 in Lisbon, Illinois and died December 11, 1935 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillie Ogle in Des Moines, at the age of 84 years and 7 days. She came to the Palestine settlement with her parents and the early pioneers. Her marriage to John Hovick took place in 1867.

Twelve children were born to this union, of which four are living. Her husband died in 1895.

Mrs. Hovick was a member of the Bethlehem congregation and an active member of the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by four children, Arthur Hovick of Jewell, Herman Hovick of Roland, Mrs. W. H. Heath and Mrs. Lillie Ogle of Des Moines and one sister, Mrs. Lorenda Olson of Slater. All were present at the services. The Ladies Aid gave a sum of money to the missions in her memory.
