Frank Thornton Is Laid to Rest In Iowa Center Cemetery
Funeral services for Frank N. Thornton, 64, who died so suddenly at his farm home southeast of Nevada Monday morning, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church in Nevada, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. Interment was in the Iowa Center cemetery.
The services were largely attended indicating the very high esteem in which Mr. Thornton had been held by his neighbors and friends of the many years of his residence in the community.
A son of Peter and Cecelia Thornton he was born at Bloomington, Wisconsin March 6, 1872. He was but a small lad when his parents came across Iowa and settled near Iowa Centr. There he was raised to manhood and near there his home had continued since.
He was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Ray of the same neighborhood on February 13, 1891. To this union, one son, Merle M., was born and is still in the family home having assumed the burden of the farm work during more recent years.
While the health of Mr. Thornton had not been the best of late, nothing serious had been felt regarding his condition. He had consulted his physician a week before his death, but had spent Sunday before his passing in good health and spirits.
Death was very sudden, coming about 7:00 Monday morning from a heart attack.
He had been preceded in death by his father, mother and three sisters and leaves to survive him his wife, the son, Merle, a brother, one sister and numerous other relatives besides a wide circle of very close friends.
Mr. Thornton was a substantial farmer and was known in the community as a man of fine character and uprightness. He will be missed not only in the home, but in the community.
