Funeral Services for Mrs. Anna Halvorson
Special to the Journal.
Huxley, Oct. 1--Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Halverson were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 from the Ambrose Scott home and at 2:30 o'clock from the Fjeldberg Lutheran church at Huxley.At the service at the church the hymn "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus name" was sung by the audience. Dr. J. N. Andersen preached the sermon of the topic "Ripening for Eternity" and a part of Verse 26 "thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age" from Job, Chapter 5.
A song "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" was sung by the choir. There were many beautiful floral offerings.
The pallbearers were Roy and Leo Scott, Ole Nelson, Arnold Larson, Harold and Orland Steensland. All are grandsons of the deceased. Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery.
Mrs. Anna Halverson was born in Sogn, Norway, April 14, 1844. She was the daughter of Elsie and Christopher Valdahl. She was the youngest of five children, having but one sister and three brothers.
In the year 1868 she came to America and in 1869 she was united in marriage to Ole Halverson at Marengo, Iowa.
To this union eight children were born. Anna Johanna died in 1881, at the age of one and a half years, Mrs. Julia Larson died October 26, 1926. Those surviving her are Halvor, Ole, Annis and Mrs. Alice Scott of near Ames, Mrs. Maggie Nelson of Little Falls, Minn., and Mrs. Oliva Steensland [should be Stensland] of near Cambridge. Her husband passed away January 7, 1922.
Her first years in America were lived in Iowa and Benton counties in Iowa and the past 51 years she lived in Story county. Of late she was at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Scott, six and one half miles north east of Huxley.
She suffered a stroke on July 4 and ----- that time she was bed fast until her death Thursday evening September 26 at 8:30 P. M. She reached the age of 94 years, five months and 12 days. The children were at her bedside all thru her illness. Her cheerful disposition will be remembered by all. She was a loving mother and faithful Christian.
