THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, November 20, 1924, page 1. "FRED L. YOUNG - Fred L. Young was born south of Maxwell in Polk county, Iowa, September 20, 1886. The parents moved from there to south of Collins, in Jasper county, where they lived for a time, moving then to northwest of Collins, in Story county, where Fred grew to young manhood. He attended High School in Collins, later a student in Des Moines. After his college days he engaged in farming, having lived most of his life in Story county in and around Collins. On September 25, 1920 he was married to Mrs. Hazel Keefe, of Maxwell, since making their home near Maxwell on the farm. About a year ago he submitted to an operation from which he did not make a satisfactory recovery but gradually failed in health. He returned to the hospital for further treatment but suddenly grew worse and passed away on November 11, 1924, at the age of thirty-eight years, one month and twenty-one days. He was a member of the A. F. & A. M. and Eastern Star in Collins and the Consistory and the Order of the Mystic Shrine at Des Moines. He was a faithful attendant at Sunday School and the services of the church, a well respected and upright citizen, a good companion and a tender father. He leaves to mourn his death his companion, two sons, Roger L. and Ardene Curtis; a father, mother, brother, sister, other relatives and many friends, all of whom will greatly miss him. The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church by Rev. Jackson Giddens, of Nevada, a former pastor of the church, in the absence of the present pastor, assisted by Rev. H. D. Robinson and DeLoss Marken, after which the mortal remains were laid to rest in the Peoria cemetery. The Collins Masonic lodge performed the funeral and burial ceremony of the order, assisted by Maxwell brethren. The church was filled to capacity by friends and relatives of the deceased who came to pay the last tribute of respect. CARD OF THANKS - To all the friends and neighbors whose sympathy and services were so kindly tendered in our time of bereavement, we desire to extend our sincere thanks; also for the many beautiful flowers. Mrs. Fred L. Young, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Young and Family.
