WITMER, DIFFENDERFER

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 23, 1909: "OBITUARY - DANIEL R. WITMER - Daniel R. Witmer was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, in the year 1833, and died December 17, 1909, being seventy-six years, five months and fourteen days. He was married to Mary Diffenderfer in 1856, and to this union seven children were born, one of whom passed away in infancy. His wife died in September, 1868, and in the spring of 1869 he moved to Jasper county, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Annie M. Diffenderfer in the year 1872; to this union three children were born, all of whom survive him. He gave himself to God at the age of seventeen and was a faithful member of the Methodist church. In the year 1870 he cast his lot with the Brethren church, near Maxwell, and lived in that faith until death called him home. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and nine children, all of whom were present at his funeral. The bearers were his sons, William D., Harding D., John R., Earl; his nephew, Howard Witmer, and his grand son, Archie Witmer. Those from abroad attending the funeral were: Edith Manning, Newton, Iowa; Ellen Charf, Annie Wydell, Earl Witmer and wife, his grandchild, Mrs. Sthel (should be Ethel) Merideth, and Frank R. Witmer, his only brother in the west, also from Newton, Iowa; Susie Adams of Phillips, Nebr. - CARD OF THANKS - The children and other relatives of the late Daniel R. Witmer desire to extend thanks to the friends whose kindness and sympathy were manifested them in their sorrow."
