THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 15, 1902, page 1, column 3. "Gilbert Station - Thursday a serious if not fatal runaway happened a quarter of a mile west of town. It seems Fred Wilson started to the field with four horses hitched to a rolling disc. In some way the horses became unmanageable and started to run, throwing Fred in front of the machine, it passing completely over him in such a manner as to dislocate and shatter the sixth vertabrae.** Medical aid was at once called and the shattered pieces of the spinal column removed. At this writing he is lying in a critical condition with but little chance of recovery…" "….Later: Fred Wilson is not so well this Tuesday. His condition is considered critical at this time. **Editorial note - spelling from the original newspaper article is used.
