THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Monday, June 27, 2005.

John F. Elliott, 79, of Ames, died Friday, June 24, at home following a brief illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

John F. Elliott was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Ames, the son of John and Mabel (Sills) Elliot. He married Doris Atkinson on Nov. 17, 1946, in Ames. He was employed by the police department, and he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He loved to hunt and fish, to spend time with family, gardening and helping people.

He was survived by his wife, Doris of Ames; six sons, John "Doug" of Ames, Stephen R. of Excelsior Springs, Mo., David L. of Greeley, Colo., Denton S. (Paula) of Ames, James A. of Ames, Richard A. (Kimberly) of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Krista, Jessica, Jonathan, Carrisa, Logan and Chandler; and one great-granddaughter, Sydney Kelsea.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father; two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Adams Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Homeward Hospice or Bliss Cancer Center.
