Funeral Services for C. S. Townsend

Funeral services for Charles Samuel Townsend, 69, who died at his home on Q avenue, Nevada, Wednesday, were held at the residence Friday afternoon with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. Mrs. Arthur Hale sand two numbers. Interment was at the Murphey cemetery, northeast of Nevada.

Charles Samuel Townsend, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Townsend, was born at Windfall, Illinois [should be Windfall, Indiana] March 18, 1866 and died at his home in Nevada April 17, 1935 age 69 years and 29 days.

He came to Story county as a boy with his parents living on a farm east of Nevada most of his childhood, later with his parents, he lived at Palo, in Linn county.

He was united in marriage to Mary Armina Mitchell of Nevada at Nevada, Dec. 20, 1888. Except for a few years they lived at Palo, Iowa, they lived in or around Nevada continuously.

To this union six children were born. One boy had passed away in infancy, and one girl, Mrs. Amy Smith passed away seven years ago. The four remaining children are Mrs. Mary V. Sowers of Fernald, Isaac N. Townsend of Maxwell, Mrs. Ida Williams of Nevada and Mrs. Pearl Deal of Nevada.

He leaves nine grand children and two great grand children. He also leaves four brothers, Joe of Wanetta, Wyoming, John of Orchard, Edward of Nevada, and Ralph of Center Point and a host of relatives and friends.
