Collins, Sept. 19--Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Ball, 78, pioneer Collins woman, who died at the home of a daughter here Wednesday evening, were held at the Church of Christ here Saturday afternoon at 3:30 with the United Brethren minister in charge. The following life sketch of the deceased was read during the service:
"Mary Anna Luing Ball, oldest child of Alfred and Isabella Wyatt Luing departed from this life September 13, 1939, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 13 days. She was born October 30, 1860 at Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. When she was a child of five the family moved to Iowa where they resided briefly at Marshalltown, Lamoille and State Center. In 1876 her father purchased the farm in southwest Marshall county which was her home until her marriage May 15, 1880 to Joseph Franklin Ball. They established their home on an adjoining farm which they occupied continuously for over 34 years. In 1920 they retired from the farm to their home in Collins where her husband passed away July 15, 1925.
To this union were born seven children. One daughter Mrs. Myrtle Swalwell passed away May 14, 1928. The surviving children are Ralph E. Ball of Nevada, Mrs. Ella Sorenson of Elkhart, Alfred Ball of McCallsburg, Mrs. Isabelle Swalwell of Collins, Everett H. Ball of Collins, and Wayne W. Ball of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
"She is also survived by one sister Mrs. Fanny Davis of Rhodes, Iowa and four brothers, Henry Luing of Milford, John Luing of Porter, Minn., Fred Luing of Worthington, Minn., and Ernest Luing of Rhodes, Iowa. She was preceded in death by two brothers, W. G. Luing and George Luing and by a sister and brother who passed away in infancy.
"Twenty-nine grand children, thirteen great grand children and a host of relatives and friends mourn her passing."
