Funeral Services for Mrs. Vern Higgs

Special to the Journal
Maxwell, March 27--Funeral services for Mrs. Vern Higgs were held Monday afternoon in the M. E. church of Maxwell. Rev. W. M. Sheuermann pastor, had charge of the services. A male quartette composed of Clark and Dale John, Ross and Clair Olinger sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer," "Have Thine Own Way" and "Sometime We'll Understand." Mrs. N. A. Pearson accompanied them at the piano. The pall bearers were Glen Scott, Emmett Scott, Harold Ellis, Roy Bell, Vern Randal and Milton Boster. The body is to be interred in Minneapolis, Minn.

Esther M. Pedersen, daughter of Emil C. and Anna Pedersen, was born at Blue Earth, Minn., June 26, 1898 and died in the Iowa sanitarium at Nevada, March 23, 1935 at the age of 36 years, 8 months and 27 days. She grew to womanhood in Blue Earth, Minn. She was united in marriage to Vern Higgs of Maxwell, Ia., Jan. 8, 1918. Most of their married life was spent in Minnesota. However four years ago Vern Higgs and family moved to Maxwell where they resided until her death.

There were three children born to this union, all of whom survive her. They are Marjorie, Betty Jean and Barbara Jane. She is also survived by her husband, her father and mother, one sister Mrs. Arthur Petersen, and three brothers John T., Melvin and Clifford, all of Minneapolis, Minn. Besides these there is one grandmother, many other relatives and numerous friends who mourn her death.

She was baptized as a child and at the age of 14 confirmed by the Rev. M. Devo and made a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Blue Earth. Three years ago she transferred her membership to the Maxwell Methodist Episcopal church where she remained a loyal member unto the end. She was a woman that devote her time to her family, thinking of their well being. She was interested in the spiritual welfare of her children. She herself was sympathetic with the work of the church an was devoted to Christ her Lord and Savior.
