HARRY VARNUM; ZEARING MAN DEAD
WORLD WAR VETERAN PASSED AWAY IN VETERANS' HOSPITAL
Special to the Journal.
Zearing, Jan. 8--Harry J. Varnum, 43, World War veteran, died at the Hines Memorial hospital, at Hines, Ill., last night, according to word received by relatives here today.The body is expected to arrive in Zearing Wednesday morning, accompanied by the wife, who had been with him for two weeks or more. Definite funeral arrangements have not been announced.
Harry Varnum was born on a farm north of Zearing, November 1, 1891, a son of Fredrick and Margaret Varnum.
He leaves besides his wife and small daughter Dorothy, his mother Margaret Varnum, brothers John and Anselme of Zearing and sister Mrs. Leo Liston of Clemons.
He had lived in or around Zearing during his entire life, with the exception of the time he spent in the army during the World War.
Returning from the service he took a position of rural mail carrier which he continued until his health compelled him to retire. He had been in the hospital for several months.
He was a member of the Zearing Post American Legion.
