Aamond Ihle, 93, Palestine Pioneer, Was Laid to Rest
Special to the Journal.
Slater, May 3--Funeral services for Aamond Ihle, 93 years old, one of the pioneers of this community were held Tuesday afternoon 1:30 o'clock at the Ole Thorsness home and 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem church. The services were in charge of his pastor Rev. E. Rorem who was assisted by Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge. Lewis Malmin sang a Norwegian song "Himlen's Portal." Two duets "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Den Store Hvide Flok" were sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson. The pallbearers were grandsons Kenneth and Melvin Ihle, Cyrus and Aamond Ihle and Joseph and Amos Ihle. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.Aamond Ihle was born in Ilsvaage, Wikelals Prestegjeld, Norway June 1, 1840 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ole Thorsness, April 27, 1934 at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 26 days. His marriage to Martha Helgeland took place in 1867. They made their home in Norway until 1893 when they emigrated to America and made their home on a farm near Slater. He and his family joined the Bethlehem congregation. His wife died in 1928. He is survived by six children, two daughters and four sons., Mrs. Severt Houge of Estherville, Ed Ihle of West Bend, Nels Ihle, John Ihle, Mrs. Ole Thorsness, N. O. Ihle and Erick Ihle all present at the services.
Two sisters and a brother in Norway and a sister, Mrs. Tom Nerem of Story City besides a host of relatives and friends. The Bethlehem Ladies Aid and the following group of friends and neighbors gave sums of money to the mission in his memory Mrs. Bertha Gandrup of Story City, Mrs. Ingeborg Highland of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Casper Rimathe, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Rimathe, Ed Ryg, Elmer and Miss Josie Ryg, Clarence and Adrianna Ryg, Mr. and Mrs. George Christianson, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Vespestad, Nels Vespestad, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Estrem, Mr. and Mrs. Weeks, E. N. Ryen, Mrs. Lena Mickelson and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Yttrevold.
